SUFISM

Toward the One, The Perfection of Love, Harmony and Beauty, the Only Being, United with all the illuminated souls who from the embodiment of the master, the spirit of guidance.

Sufism, a heart based spiritual path, respects all religions while encouraging people to rise above their differences, discovering the divine spark within. Sufism has often been called “the religion of the heart “ and is popularly believed to be the mystic path of Islam – however according to Inayat Khan, the first Sufi teacher to come to the West from India in 1911, Sufism has its roots in the mystery schools of ancient Egypt.

The Inayati Order of Sufis:

Hazrat Inayat Khan

Originally known simply as the Sufi Order of the West, this branch was founded by Hazrat Inayat Khan, a mystical musician and poet whose family had developed a school of music in Baroda, India. This branch has grown out of the Chishti Sufi lineage to which Inayat’s teacher Abu Hashim Madani belonged.

The symbol of the Sufis is the winged heart with crescent and five-pointed star, symbolizing that the heart which is receptive to the divine light takes wing.

Inayat Khan structured his organization with five activities each representing the point of a five pointed star:

The Esoteric School supports the spiritual unfoldment of its initiates.

The Sufi Healing Order encourages a deeper understanding of the spiritual aspect of healing and brings support to those who are engaged in healing.

Ziraat is a mystery school which helps participants to cultivate their mind and refine their ego through stages of development with symbology drawn from agriculture.

The Universal Worship Service explores the religious dimension through a respect for all religions and spiritual traditions.

Kinship (originally Brotherhood) encourages the deepening of the heart through friendship.

Inayat Khan’s son Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan further developed the Order, exploring the far reaches of the soul through meditation and developing the Sufi Alchemical Retreat, the Cosmic Celebration, and the Hope Project in India, which brings food and education to Delhi’s poorest children and families…

When Pir Vilayat died in 2003, his son Pir Zia Inayat Khan took over the Order, continuing the work of the Hope Project and founding the Suluk academy for Sufi studies. He has written several books – and has participated in video productions including the BBC documentary “ Enemy of the Reich” telling the story of Noor Un Nisa…

Noor un Nisa Inayat Khan

Pir Vilayat’s sister Noor un Nisa Inayat Khan was the last radio operator left in Paris during the French resistance. Her great courage has inspired many to retell her story as a spiritual warrior in our time. She was an accomplished musician, playing the harp and vina, and she published a book of Jataka tales for children.

Sufi Ahmed Murad Chishti (Murshid Samuel Lewis)

Sufi Ruhaniat Society, founded by Sufi Ahmed Murad Chishti (Murshid Samuel Lewis)

Sufi Ahmed Murad Chishti (known as Sufi Sam) was a disciple of Inayat Khan, who, after many profound spiritual awakenings was guided to bring Sufism to the hippy generation.

“He originated the Dances of Universal Peace and dedicated them to the Temple of Understanding which was committed, as was Hazrat Inayat Khan, to providing a house of prayer for all peoples.  These dances, which take sacred phrases from all the world’s religions, have since spread worldwide.  He originated the work of the Sufi Choir and instituted spiritual instruction through music.  He credited his “fairy godmother” Ruth St. Denis with his ability to draw Dance forms out of the cosmos and for his inspiration to teach through the Walk.

In 1968, he joined forces with Pir Vilayat Khan, the eldest son of his first teacher, and there followed a great flowering of the Sufi work in the United States.” (-excerpt from Murshid Wali Ali)

“I AM” Presence

The “I AM” Presence Movement is one of the many NEW THOUGHT spiritual movements that began in the West in the early 1900’s.   It was begun by Guy and Edna Ballard in the 1930’s, founding the St. Germaine Foundation. It has its roots in the teachings of Helena Blavatsky who founded the Theosophical Society in 1875.

Since its founding, the “I AM” Presence Path has had many teachers and/or Messengers that have revealed the “I AM” teachings, each from their own unique perspective. Many of these Messengers have had Mystical encounters with specific Masters or Enlightened Ones that have inspired them and helped them with their work.

The Purpose of the “I AM” Presence Movement

The purpose of the “I AM” Lineage is to create Mystics that are striving for oneness with their Highest Selves, to become Masters that experience complete union with the Divine.

Basic Teachings of the “I AM” Movement

Every human being comes to earth in many lives, to develop spiritually, and become a Master or Enlightened One.  Each person manifests his or her own unique individuality of total Divine Love, Wisdom and Power, called the person’s Individualized “I Am” Presence and has the potential for complete Divine Consciousness.

The Individualized “I AM” Presence is the Divine in ACTION, as each person’s Highest Self of Creative Power. This Divine Presence within is amplified through manifesting loving, wise and powerful thoughts, words and actions in service to all humanity and the entire planet. The Masters, known through many faiths, and sometimes unknown, are available to help.

In the Teachings, the Divine is seen as both Mother and Father. The Divine Mother is often emphasized NOW, revealing herself as equal to the Divine Father.

“I AM” Affirmations

The Practice of “I AM” Affirmations increases our connection and awareness with our “I AM” Presence, the Divine Potential within us. Through this practice we affirm our reality as it truly is. This helps us align, again and again, with the fullness of the Divinity that we really are.

The Three-Fold Flame of the Heart

The Great Qualities of the Divine, Universal Love, Wisdom and Power, are present in humans as a Fire of the Heart: The Fire of Blue depicts Divine Power, the Fire of Yellow depicts Divine Wisdom, and the Fire of Pink depicts Divine Love.  This Fire is the spark of Divinity within each person. These fires grow more and more, as we are Divine in our actions of Love, Wisdom and Power. As this happens, the White Light of the Mother at the Base of the Spine rises more and more into our Heart.

The Violet Fire of Transformation

In the Teachings, the Divine Spirit is often depicted as a Violet Fire of Alchemy and Change. It is the Fire of Joyful Radiant Power that can transform ourselves and our earth circumstances. It is a Fire of Rejuvenation which uplifts our thoughts, words, feelings and actions into our Highest Selves.  Through the Violet Fire, we are continually  renewed, able to do good on earth and our “I AM” Presence is continually amplified.

Masters of the Movement

St. Germaine, El Morya, Kuthumi and Jesus are the main Masters or Enlightened Ones that have worked with Teachers within the movement.  Many other Masters have also guided the Teachers.  These Masters work for Earth’s cosmic destiny, as well as inspire and guide human beings for the upliftment of Humanity.

ARKANSAS METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY

We gather as seekers of inner meaning, wisdom and the nature of unseen realities. None of us has a complete picture of our own being or the greater existence of consciousness, so we come together from our myriad paths seeking to add to a greater comprehension while sharing in the inner knowledge and experience of others on a similar journey. Thus spiritual inquiry is encouraged and respected.

We are not a group of people seeking therapy; we are not a debating society; neither are we a platform for personal, economic, or political agendas. Our only imperative is to listen while deeper meaning seeks our awareness.

We meet Mondays at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
